Being a first generation college student, Melisa Leon is passionate about helping children of all backgrounds, no matter the circumstances, reach high school graduation and attend college. Melisa has lived in Los Angeles her whole life and is currently a proud Matador at Cal State Northridge. She is pursuing her teaching credential while enrolled in the Liberal Studies Program that puts CSUN among the top three institutions in California in preparing K-6 educators for the classroom. As part of her ongoing education to be an elementary school teacher, Melisa has dedicated her time in a kindergarten classroom by leading reading time and math lessons. She has helped 5th graders with science lessons, and has worked with middle school students as an after school counselor. From tutoring 6-8th grade students in math and English and providing enrichment classes in cooking and performing arts, Melisa became even more sure she wanted to help shape young minds. As a teacher assistant, she is committed to constantly learn about her students and learn how to be a lead teacher.
