Andy Tran was born in Redondo Beach but grew up in San Diego. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from San Diego State University and hopes to enroll in a teaching credential program next year. Throughout his undergraduate career, Andy learned and became passionate about solving inequalities in education. This inspired him to pursue a career in teaching. He discovered his love for educating elementary-aged students when he worked for the San Diego County Office of Education’s Science Outreach Program. There, he taught environmental science curriculum using hands-on activities and experiments. He has also been involved with several social justice causes such as Take Back the Week’s campaign to raise awareness and prevent sexual assault and the Center on Policy Initiative’s Fight for 15! Andy is excited to join New LA as an assistant teacher and use his experience in social justice and environmental science to help nurture future leaders. When he is not teaching, Andy enjoys playing basketball, cooking vegan dishes, and taking Polaroid pictures!
